The aim of Food Technology is to actively engage students in learning about food in a variety of settings, enabling them to evaluate the relationships between food, technology, nutritional status and the quality of life. Students will develop confidence and proficiency in their practical interactions with and decisions regarding food.
Food Technology provides students with a broad knowledge and understanding of food properties, processing, preparation and their interrelationships, nutritional considerations and consumption patterns. It addresses the importance of hygiene and safe working practices. It provides students with a context through which to explore the richness, pleasure and variety food adds to life. Students develop practical skills in preparing and presenting food that will enable them to select and use appropriate ingredients, methods and equipment.

To participate in practical lessons students must wear enclosed leather shoes; this is a requirement of the Department of Education, Work Health and Safety regulations. Students are also required to pay a fee of $5.00 for each practical lesson. This may be paid weekly, by the term or for the entire year.
